Night view / Notturni

 

I notturni sono "iniziati" nel 1999. Opere inizialmente di piccolo formato, più simili a bozzetti o studi preparatori che non a opere compiute. La ricerca di atmosfere rarefatte, sospese nel tempo e nello spazio, in bilico tra  reale e immaginario muoveva i primi passi nella direzione metodica  che ha preso successivamente. I "notturni" sono un ciclo che da sempre accompagna la produzione di Nannini. Edifici noti o meno noti, centri cittadini animati dalla dinamica di “accenti” luminosi, strutture architettoniche incupite dal buio o sfuocate da luci accecanti che martellano veloci e gestuali la superficie pittorica : questi sono i primi notturni di Nannini. Negli anni successivi "entrano" le silenziose notti di più rarefatte visioni, dove gli orizzonti di campagne e provincia sono squarciati da occasionali fari d'automobile e ne svelano brani inaspettati: alberi sorpresi come statue dell'indifferenza, sentieri che portano al vuoto, casolari o piccoli borghi dove una sola lontana finestra illuminata apre ad un sentore di presenza.

The night views "kicked off" in 1999. They were initially small-scale format, more similar to sketches or preliminary drawings than complete works. The search for rarefied atmospheres, suspended in time and space, in the balance between real and imaginary, paved the way to the more methodical direction the artist was to subsequently take. These night scenes have always figured prominently in Nannini's output. Well-known or lesser known buildings, town centres animated by bright, luminous “accents”, architectural structures made gloomy by the dark or blurred by blinding lights that blast the surface of the picture as in Gesturalism  or Action Painting: such were the early night views of Nannini. In subsequent years silent nights of a more rarefied vision “took over”, where the horizons of countryside scenes are occasionally disrupted by car headlights, revealing unexpected glimpses of trees taken by surprise, like statues of indifference, paths that lead into the void, farmhouses or hamlets where only a far-off lit-up window gives any hint of human presence.
